Sunday mornings

A busy time for children at both Churches during term time.

Please see Services page for times.

Children arrive with their parents and stay in church to sing the first hymn before they whizz off for their own time of learning.

Children new to the church are welcomed, even if only visiting for the day.

At St Andrew there are crèche facilities for babies and the very young in the small chapel.  At St Thomas mums and the very young can use the comfortable clergy vestry as well as a clear carpeted area at the back of the church. Toys are provided or you are welcome to bring your own (quiet ones!)

At both churches the children return into church for Holy Communion or a blessing and then always report back to the congregation on their morning’s activities. This is a special family moment for all those present.

Permission to receive Holy Communion as a Child

The Bishop of St Albans has given parishes permission to prepare young people from the age of 7 years to receive Holy Communion.  The preparation takes place once a year either five weeks before Easter or Christmas depending on the birthdays of the group seeking preparation. It is a delight to provide such a wonderful experience for our young people and we as a church have found it rewarding and encouraging.  There is a short ceremony of commitment by the children on the day they receive permission and the whole Christian family share in the joy of their special day.  Of course, it is then up to parents to continue to encourage their children in their commitment to Christ, and it is up to us as a church to provide a happy nurturing environment.
